- I just bought a LV Retiro bag today at the actual Louis Vuitton store with a date code of AH2176. So thus is made in France, 27th week of 2016 (pls correct me if I’m wrong) My question is, does the year has to match todays year.

Date codes identify the manufacturing location and production date for a Louis Vuitton item, but they do not verify authenticity by themselves. The date code is typically stamped onto a leather tab and sewn along a seam of the bag interior. For leather tabs, the leather should match the leather color on the rest of the bag. Date codes will not be in the same location for all bags, but you can find the date code in the same location in specific styles.

- For bags with an Alcantara lining (a soft, microsuede) the date code will be stamped directly onto the lining. The code often fades over time making it in many cases nearly impossible to distinguish with the naked eye.

Vintage: Vintage Louis Vuitton items (pre-1980) do not have date codes, and on some old materials, the date codes may have faded out or it will be too blurry to see.
As a part of every Louis Vuitton date code, there will be two letters to indicate where the item was made. The date code prefix will match the “Made in (country)” heat stamp found stamped below the Louis Vuitton logo.
